The west accuses Venezuela of starving its people while subjecting them to deadly sanctions. The west accuses Venezuela of killing its own people while supporting oppositions that burn people alive, attack a maternity hospital and drone-bomb political opponents. That country—the target with resources and/or strategic significance—could be Russia, China, North Korea, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Congo, Syria, Nicaragua, Granada, Chile, Algeria or countless others. When “democracy” is imperialism, the empire needs 900 military bases across the globe, lying media outlets, brainwashing “education”, propaganda culture and war profiteers and corporate agents as politicians propping up the empire. The bigger the lies, the bigger the fear. When promises made by the authority are the promises of hostage takers putting a gun against our human rights, we are victims of oppression. A system that deprives our self-determination, severs our ties to the land, destroys our communities, puts us against each other and turns our lives into profits to expand, exploit and subjugate, will devour our species. Ultimately, it is not a matter of politics which we are facing today. It is not a matter of ideological slogans. It is not a matter of love for our country, religion, race or culture that guides us into a better future for all of us. It is a matter of who we are as a species that lives according to the material reality of our planet. Our ecosystems thrive in mutual awareness of our needs that leads to a harmony among us. The blatant disregard for “others”—the very notion of regarding our fellow people and creatures as “others” to be excluded and destroyed for profits —will eventually exclude our species from our planet.
